Two worlds collide in this darkly comic story of desperation and loss. A beautiful score enhances the intriguing story, while moving performances from the strong company cast and Andrew Buckland will leave audience members thoughtfully unsettled.

At a National Arts Festival ceremony on the 4 July, Festival Director Ismail Mahomed and veteran Arts writer Adrienne Sichel announced BREED as a Silver Standard Bank Ovation Award winner. A newly launched award, it recognises "Artistic innovation, excellence, the exploration of new performance styles and the courage to open new conversations through the arts..." (Cue, June-July 2010). BREED wins alongside productions London Road and Karoo Moose, proving Ubom! to be amongst the best South African theatre has to offer.

Various members of the press and audience members had the following to say:
  • “...the play glitters with a performative humour that is compelling for its intelligence and playfulness.” (Dion van Niekerk, NAF Artsblog 2010)
  • “It’s a frikken amazing show, rummaging around in our differences, reveling in gate-crashing social, cultural Saffrican taboo.” (Makana Moon, 1 July 2010)
  • “’Breed’ was top-notch. It was powerful, hilarious, believable, clever, and - most importantly - relevant.” (Audience member Matthew Jackson, NAF 2010)
